When you are a mom you expect to get certain phone calls… You daughter threw up all over her desk at school, your son was in a fight or climbed on [fill in inappropriate and dangerous object here] and was injured, please have a discussion with your child and explain why it’s not okay to tell poo jokes in the classroom… these are all things I can handle.  One that I was not prepared for was the call I received yesterday.  “Mrs. B, this is the nurse from your daughter’s school.  I’m calling to let you know your daughter accidentally received the wrong vaccination today at school.”  WHAT?… but wait!  There’s more!  “Yes ma’am, I accidentally gave your daughter the flu booster instead of the H1N1 vaccine”.  Now some of you may be thinking that it’s no big deal.  She’s not allergic to the flu vaccine, it wasn’t poison they gave her.  But that is not the point.  Someone who I trusted to take care of my daughter was negligent and administered the wrong vaccination.  Apparently the flu booster and the H1N1 vaccination arrived together from the same company and they were in similar containers.  Why have them in such close proximity then?  Why on earth, if the two looked similar would you keep them so close as to mix them up and administer the wrong vaccination not only to my daughter, but to other children.  I understand that no one is perfect, but when it comes to putting medication or vaccination into my child’s body, you better be damn close to perfect.  So I’ve been having a little (okay, big) freak out.  I’ve written a letter to the appropriate people to file a complaint, and I even had someone else read it to make sure I didn’t sound like a psychopath.  Yeah for me, I managed to keep that in check!  So here I am, a mom who received an unexpected call, and I managed to keep it together.  I’m going to have to remember this for the next mountain I come across in motherhood.  It’s good to know I can keep my freak outs where they belong.

Feeling lazy lately… nothing too interesting to write.  Sick kids.  AGAIN!!!  Hopefully I will get at least one good vomit story out of it.  More soon dear readers!

Happy Halloween!

Halloween is over for another year and I am sitting in the kitchen looking at a counter full of candy wondering how much I can eat before my kids notice.  My two-year old keeps walking by looking up at me saying “Trick-or-Treat?” and holding out his already chocolate stained hand.  The kids had a fantastic time considering I had them dressed for a cold October night and it was 75 degrees out.  My husband and I spent the evening sweating profusely and swapping stories of Halloween Past.  It was an especially fun Halloween this year because for the first time, my husband didn’t have to work.  He got to enjoy the whining about whose turn it was to ring the doorbell.  He got to experience the cranky attitudes that started to appear soon after my youngest son stepped in a giant puddle and got his feet and pants all wet.  He got to try and keep the kids from covertly shoving large amounts of candy in their mouth in the backseat of the car while we weren’t looking.  Yep, it was Halloween in all it’s glory and he was able to experience every bit!  As if self-induced sugar  comas weren’t bad enough, some genius decided that daylight savings time should end at midnight on Halloween and so of course with their little bodies telling them it was a reasonable 6:30, my kids woke up bouncing off the walls at 5:30am.  Not cool kids.  Not. Cool.

So I sit here munching on a Three Musketeers bar (I caved, so sue me), the older kids are off at school and I’m about to hand my baby man another piece of candy just as soon as he says those magic words…

PLEASE!  HELP!  TODAY!

Okay, last week I was sick, sick, sick and putting on makeup was not on my list of things to do.  To make up for it, I am doing TWO looks today!  The Green Bay Packers and Cleveland Browns are playing each other today, and I thought it was the perfect time to try out a couple of new looks.

First up is the Packers inspired look.  I really wanted to tone this look down a bit and make it wearable for everyday, so I chose to highlight the green more than the yellow.   For this look  I used Solar (a buttery, shimmery yellow), Clover (a brilliant emerald green), Celadon (a pale shimmery sage-y green) and Loreal’s HiP eye pencil in black.  First, apply Solar (or your favorite pale yellow or gold shadow) to your entire lid.  I applied it wet to intensify it some.  Then gently apply Clover (or your favorite dramatic green) to the outer corner of your eye, blending it carefully into your crease to about mid-eyelid.  Add a little Celadon (pale green) to the Clover, blending it.   This softens the look.  Finally, a dramatic black eyeliner on both top and lower lash lines gets a soft look by using a stiff flat brush to blend it gently.

Now for the Cleveland Browns look I got to use my new shades Mangosteen (a pale peach) and Mandarin (a knock-out orange).  I also used Espresso (amazing bronzy brown) and little bit of Cinnamon (explosion of autumn-y brown sparkles).

Using the Mangosteen, cover your entire eyelid, concentrating the color on the inner corner of your eye.  Using a damp brush, tap on the Mandarin from the center of your eyelid, extending out toward the outer corner of your eye.  I did this a couple of times to build up the color.  Then using a big fluffy eye brush, blend the Mandarin in towards the inner corner of your eye.  Using a small domed brush, add some Espresso to the outer corner of your eye blending into the crease towards the center of your eyelid.  I uses Espresso again with a wet liner brush to line my upper and lower lids.  Finally I used the Cinnamon to add some dramatic sparkles to my eyelid (I wish this showed up in the photo better).

I’ve been sick all week on and off so I put off doing NFL eyes till this weekend.  Tomorrow I will premier TWO looks with mini tutorials.  The first look will be inspired by the…  hahaha!  No way I’m telling you!  You will just have to find out tomorrow!

Hey guys.  I went through the entire day today without even thinking about doing an NFL Eyes post.  It could have something to do with my trip to the grocery store yesterday.  I was wearing my fake croc shoes in the rain.  This is stupid for two reasons:  1) The shoes have little holes all over the top of them and they are slip-ons making them silly to wear when you are walking in the rain.  2)  They have no tread on them whatsoever.  So I go walking in to the grocery store to return some movies and I get right inside where the shiny linoleum was waiting to kick my butt.  I took one step and went belly flopping on said linoleum.  I got LAID OUT! The movies went flying and I just lay there for a second praying that no one saw me.  Which was of course not true.  EVERYONE saw me!  Okay, not everyone, but like 10 people.  Adding insult to injury they all had to come over and try to help me up and ask me if I was okay when all I wanted to do was become suddenly invisible.

So anyway, the point of this story is that today I felt like someone kicked me in the chest, the stomach, the shoulders, the neck, the knees… pretty much just name a place and I felt like I got kicked there.  Makeup was the LAST thing on my mind.

To make up for it, I will do a special edition NFL Eyes for Monday Night Football, so stay tuned tomorrow for a great new NFL team inspired look.  And don’t wear crocs in the rain.
