Wanna see me spin?

Standard

When my daughter was born, I was so excited! Besides my obvious maternal feelings, I was thrilled to have a little dress up doll to play with (I know how that sounds, but those of you with daughters… you know you thought the same thing!) I had a closet full of delicious little confections with rosettes, ribbons, ruffles and more. It looked like a cupcake threw up all over her room. She’s going to be 4 next week, and she still loves anything fluffy and pink, but most of all she loves anything she can spin in!

It’s not uncommon for my entire day to be filled with “wanna see me spin? wanna watch me spin? hey mom hey mom hey mother hey mommy WATCH!” So of course I will stop what I’m doing and watch her spin. Usually she chooses spinning locations that are dangerously close to sharp corners or breakable objects. She prefers to spin next to the expensive crystal section in the mall, but shuns the bedding section. She’ll spin right next to me if I’m holding a hot cup of coffee, but if I’ve got a load of towels in my hand, you will find her spinning on the concrete patio next to the sharp BBQ utensils. This danger-seeking I blame entirely on her father who has convinced her he is part superhero so she must be too!

Today she yelled at me “MOTHER! Watch this new spin I can do” and proceeded to twirl at lightning speed on one foot while holding her pink dress up over her head. I gave it a 9.5 mostly because she tripped over her dress up shoes and landed in the middle of the livingroom. As I watched her spin I was suddenly overwhelmed with a sense of loss. When was the last time I had a good spin? I remembered how fun it was to twirl and spin and run without any sense of embarrassment or decorum. I just did it because it was fun. So today, in the middle of the livingroom, I “spinned” like a top! I twirled till I was dizzy and fell into a heap right next to my giggling little girl. It was the best day ever.

Etsy Feature: An Interview With ClaireEyeDesign

Standard

As promised, here is my first Etsy Feature Interview!!  I posted in the forum asking for interested sellers and got a chance to look through some really AMAZING shops, lots of which I’d never seen before (I just love that about Etsy, you never know what you’re going to find!).  ClaireEyeDesign caught my attention with her beautiful note cards and photography.  She is a newer seller to Etsy having joined in June, but already she’s put together a great combination of items.  My personal favorite are these note cards:

What are your favorite methods or materials to use when creating? I am a graphic designer by trade so most of the items that I design are paper products. As for hobbies, my camera to grab the next amazing shot, and of course acrylic paints. Painting has become my new obsession!

What brought you to Etsy? Do you sell locally in your community as well? A friend of mine suggested Etsy a while back. I sell locally to friends and acquaintances and wanted to increase my client base. I thought Etsy would be a great way to get the word out on a global level. My first sale was to Canada, so…Success!

How long have you been crafting? Do you try to create something new every day, or just when the mood strikes? I’m definitely a “When the mood strikes” kind of person. I have been doing some kind of crafting since I came out of the womb. Some days, I may do 3 types of crafting activities, whereas then I may go another 3 days before getting back to it.

What is your favorite piece in your shop right now? Wow, that’s tough, but I’m going to say, “Island Ride”, which is a photograph taken in Panama this past Spring. I just love the way it caught the light.

Who has been your biggest fan/support? I have a great support system, so it is always hard to pinpoint one person. Although, my husband has stuck with me through so much and also has faith in my talent. He is simply amazing.

Biggest goal for next six months? Increasing sales and getting the word out. My shop is still very new so I really hope things begin to pick up in the near future.

It’s A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood

Standard

…would you be mine, could you be mine, won’t you be my neighbor?

Thank you for stopping by my little corner of the world. It’s about time!

I want to get something out of the way right now… sort of lay all my cards on the table if you will: I have no idea what kinds of things will end up on this blog! It’s supposed to be a craft blog in theory, but I have an extremely crazy life, and I’ll tell anyone about it, so I guess you never know what you’re going to get.  I can promise that if you want a little peek into someone else’s mind, this is the place to come!

Sound like fun? Sound like the same thing you’ve seen other places? Well, I promise to add in a healthy dose of my crazy life and I am not the same thing you’ve seen other places! So if you like creating, shopping, stories about poop (that’s right, I’ve got a baby so you know there are going to be poop stories) or you just get a voyeuristic kick out of reading about someone else, stick around! I’m glad to have you 🙂
